1 Year After
Senior Year

Well, I'm not sure how creative it is, but its something that I feel is a real problem and it is very near and dear to me. The two pictures here are of me----I noticed that it didn't post right and it came out as an after/before rather than a before/after, but I couldn't fix it. I tried to pick two pictures that were also pretty similar in the framing so that you could see the 110 lb difference in the picture.

The issue that I want to talk about is coming up with a better way of educating people (young and old) about what to eat and how to exercise. Throughout my whole life I was always the fattest kid I knew until one day I decided to talk to one of the dietitians at work (I work at MaineGeneral)  and he just told me a few things on what to eat, when to eat, and what I should avoid. I also joined Champion's Fitness Club and talked to some of the other members. After 3-4 months of a good routine I had dropped 63 pounds.

I guess what I'm trying to get to is that my whole family is fat, and the reason is that they don't "know" any better. I mean its obvious that if corn dogs is a staple in your diet you're going to be a "two-ton-heffy", but in all honesty a lot of people wouldn't know what the better choice would be between two similar products by reading the back of the label. With good ol' fashioned teaching and the will to do it people would make better choices and I think it would help to solve the obesity problem in the United States. I realize that the argument is going to be "they teach this in schools", but lets be completely honest Health class was a joke. I used it as a second study hall. I think there should be programs that not only teach people what to eat/exercise, but also some classes geared towards teaching people how to cook/choose healthier alternatives.

I don't know if this makes any sense to anyone, but I sort of want to be a dietitian now to help other people with what really is one of the biggest struggles in the world...I hope this wasn't too much of a rant.
